Week 4
Day 22 Darwin
Today we headed down to the Adelaide River to do the Croc Jumping Tour. We had such an amazing time. The crocs were so close to us. Loved every second of it. Afterwards we headed into Darwin for fish and chips.
Day 23 Darwin
Incredibly lazy morning here. Kids were still in their pjs until after lunch. Hot day today, so was nice to just do nothing. Kids had a morning of art and crafts which I think they desperately needed. Around 4pm we made our way to the Mindil Markets for some yummy food and to watch the sunset over the beach.
Oh my gosh.. love!!! What an amazing market. Kids each got a crocodile tooth necklace. They look so cute. Every type of cuisine you could imagine all in one place. So many options to choose from. What a feast we had, fresh mango, potato spirals, profetjes, churros, oysters, paella, pork skewers, calamari… all was yum!
We then walked over to the beach and found a spot to sit and watch the breathtaking sunset. Another beautiful evening with our little family.
Day 24 Darwin to Kakadu
Packed up and made our way to Kakadu. Stopped at the mango farms along the way to get some drone photographs. Arrived at Kakadu, dumped the caravan at the caravan park and headed to the East Alligator Region with hopes of seeing some crocodiles. We did the Manngarre Rainforest Walk. Only to find out that about 3/4 of it was supposed to be closed for our safety but we missed the sign.... oops. We only spotted 2 crocs on the banks of the river and kids were a little bit disappointed. All of the kids have now decided to do a video blog, it’s so freaking cute. I will share some soon.
Next stop was Ubirr to look at the rock art there. Rock art was beautiful, but the magic was at the end of the walk, there is a lookout. I seriously have NO WORDS to describe how beautiful this place is. It was completely unexpected. Liam’s quote is perfect “Mum is this real or is this a picture?”. Absolutely breathtaking.
On the way back to the caravan, I made Scotty pull over because I found a great little spot where we could watch the sun set over the wetland. GORGEOUS!!! Each day just keeps getting better and better.
We stayed at Kakadu Lodge and Campground
Day 25 Kakadu
We moved campsites this morning, to try and get us a bit closer to what we wanted to see today. We are staying at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.
We did the Yellow Water Cruise, I absolutely loved it. So many animals and such incredible scenery. We saw a tonne of crocodiles, egrets, a couple of sea eagles and a mating pair, lotus flowers, water lilies, buffalo fbbbmand so much more. Our tour guide (Reuben) was great and so informative. The boys even got to have a drive of the boat.
Went to Maguk to have a look and a swim in the plunge pool. We were under the impression that there wasn’t much water in any of the waterfalls because they didn’t have a very good wet season this year. However we were pleasantly surprised to find water and a waterfall. I towed Brig over to the waterfall on my back. So, so beautiful. And the water was a beautiful temperature. Gorgeous little walk in and out of the plunge pool. Lots of rock climbing for the kids.
Day 26 Kakadu to Timber Creek
Big driving day. Stopped in Katherine for supplies. The scenery as we got close to Victoria River was amazing.
Arrived in Timber Creek and we stayed at a great little National Park Campsite called Big Horse Creek Campground. It is right alongside the Victoria RIver. Great little National Park Campsite, thank you WikiCamps.
Day 27 Timber Creek to Lake Argyle
We got everyone up early so that we could get away to arrive in Lake Argyle in time for our cruise. Thank goodness for the time zone change, that 1.5hrs has saved us and we can get up a bit later.
At the WA Boarder, took some photographs and had to hand over all fruit, Veg and honey as part of the states quarantine.
Drive from the boarder through to Lake Argyle was beautiful. Wow what an incredible place, breathtaking scenery and beautiful weather. A little bit windy today but not enough to make a difference. Cruise was fabulous, we learnt at lot about how the Ord river was dammed and how the dam was constructed. We saw black footed rock wallaby’s, crocodiles, and lots of fish. Fish were Catfish / cobbler.
We pulled up at a great little spot (where we had only seen a crocodile on the bank 10 minutes ago) and had a swim. The water was beautiful.
After the boat cruise we went for a swim in the Infinity pool. WOW!!!!!!! What an incredible spot. The view is incredible and the water was very refreshing.
The beer garden was calling our name for dinner as we had no supplies left after we had to get rid of all our fruit and veg. Beer garden had a great little atmosphere and the singer was back singing covers this time.
Dinner was lovely, but the best part was the dancing!!!!! The whole family got up and had a boogie, soooooo much fun, I loved it.
Day 28 Lake Argyle to El Questro Homestead
Stopped in at Kununurra to re-stock our fruit and veg. Beautiful drive in. It was exciting to drive on a little bit of The Gibb River Road, even if it was the asphalt section. What a drive in to El Questro. We had two river crossings to get in.
So excited to be here, the place is incredible. A lazy afternoon just relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. Another beautiful day and can’t wait to see what wonderful places we discover tomorrow.
